What's Your Fantasy?

-The draft for my fantasy football league, Kentucky Football Conference 2007, is one week from today. In case you didn't know, last year I had the most dominating team in the league. I went 12-2 in the regular season before being upset in the championship game, which could only be described as a total fluke. Anyways, the DreamKillers are going straight to the top this year. Here are some of my quick thoughts on fantasy football for this year:

-The fantasy MVP for this year will be a three-way race between Frank Gore, Steven Jackson, and of course LT.

-The surprise fantasy QB this season is going to be the 49er's Alex Smith. He came on strong at the end of last year and the 49ers have made alot of improvements to their offense this off-season.

-Larry Johnson is due for a bad season. After 816 touches the past two seasons, it is inevitable that LJ is going to run out of steam at some point this year. Then again, an off-year for LJ probably still means 1300 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns!

-Avoid drafting any of the Patriot's receivers too high. We all know that they have an all-star receiving corps assembled but Tom Brady spreads the ball around alot in that offense. I wouldn't expect any of thier receivers to have much more than a thousand yards receiving and 6 touchdowns.

On to less-important things . . .

-Madden 08 comes out Monday night at midnight so it's a safe bet that it is going to be hard to get in touch with me for the next month and a half or so. It is going to be tough to adjust to playing without Vick after all these years. It's all good though. I'm gonna make Joey Harrington play like Bo Jackson on Tecmo Bowl.

-I just got Disturbia on HD-DVD. If you didn't get a chance to catch this flick at the theatre, then do yourself a favor and go buy it. It is a really good, suspenseful movie and Shia LaBeouf is excellent in it.

-Just picked up UGK's new cd Underground Kingz. It is a double album with 29 songs all together. I haven't really had a chance to listen to it yet but I will let you know how it is as soon as I give it a good spin.

What A Lucky *^%#!!!

-Take a look at this loser! Apparently, he just randomly decided to check out a Giant's game while he was stopping over in San Francisco on his way to vacation in Austrailia. This outcast in a Mets jersey is the lucky jerk who managed to emerge from the battle royal in the centerfield bleachers with Barry Bonds' record breaking home run ball. He is probably going to get at least half a mil for his good fortune/dumb luck. Just look at the guy's face, what a d-bag! He's probably friends with Kige from Josh's blog. http://joshkeown.blogspot.com/

-No matter what you think about Bonds finally breaking the record, I think everyone has gotta agree that it was a class move by Hank Aaron to congratulate Barry in front of all the fans. Very classy.

-Brady Quinn finally signed with the Browns. I stick by my word, this guy has got draft bust written all over him.

Joey, Joey, Joey

-Word out of Atlanta is that the NFL is going to announce sometime this week that Michael Vick is officially suspended for the entire 2007 season. I honestly don't even know what to say. Everyone that knows me knows that Vick has been my favorite football player ever since he burst onto the scene at Virginia Tech back in 1999. Over the years of watching him I have also grown very attached to the Atlanta Falcons and they will continue to be my favorite team even once Vick inevitably gets cut or traded. I am just really disappointed in Mike. Don't get it twisted, I still believe from the bottom of my heart that he is innocent of the charges he was indicted on. But at the very least, he was associated with the guys who were running the operation and that's pretty bad by itself. I hope that he can fight the charges and bounce back to have a successful second half to his career. I got faith in him.

-Ok, now that we got all the tearjerker Vick stuff out of the way, let's take a look at the Falcons 2007 season. We got Joey Harrington starting at QB now and that might not be as bad as it sounds. According to a Fox Sports column that can be found by following the link at the right, Joey is poised and ready to have his best season ever. He says that he has finally put all of the dissapointment and negativity from his stint in Detroit behind him. I think with Bobby Petrino's high-powered offense and QB-friendly coaching, Joey could have a decent year. At running back, Jerious Norwood is going to have a break out year and will probably take over at starter for Warrick Dunn, sooner rather than later. We all know the Falcons have terrible receivers, but Roddy White started to improve a little at the end of last year. And we did pick up Joe Horn in free agency, which would be pretty good if this were 2003! The defense is still a little soft and undersized but hopefully they will at least be able to keep us in games. In a weak NFC, I still feel like the Falcons can push for a wild card spot.

-Regardless of how the Falcons do this year, I am still pumped for the start of the NFL season. The first preseason game is tonight. You can catch the Saints and Steelers tonight at 8 eastern, only on the NFL Network.

Not All That

-Brady Quinn is still holding out from the Cleveland Browns training camp. To me, this is rediculous. The reason for his holdout is that Quinn believes he should be paid as a top 10 pick, even though he was selected 23rd in the NFL Draft. This is clearly a case of a player believing his own hype. If you know football and you have actually watched this guy play, you will see that he is really not that great. Yeah, he has got the prototypical NFL size and arm strength, but he is not very accurate and doesn't always make good decisions. The only reason he got all the press and accolades heaped upon him was because he was the quarterback for Notre Dame. If Brady Quinn had attended San Jose State, he would have been a 4th round draft pick with little to no fanfare. I'll put it in writing, Brady Quinn will never make a Pro Bowl in the NFL.

-Is Barry Bonds ever going to break Hank Aaron's record? It is seriously feeling like he is going to be stuck on 754 for a long time. Karma.

Don't Call It A Comeback . . .

-Ok ok, I know. More than two weeks with no posts, and no explanation, I should be ashamed of myself. Trust me, the past two weeks have pretty much been a whirlwind for me. I have driven from Virginia to Kentucky and back again. Somehow, I found enough time in between to go and get married! Thanks to everyone who was there! Anyways, my life is back to normal now so expect to see blog updates daily. Thank you for your patience!

-First things first, to answer everybody's question: YES, I still believe that Mike Vick is innocent and I have still got his back. Until he is proven guilty in the court of law (not the court of public opinion!), he will be my favorite player. All I want to know is who is going to be first in line when it is time to apologize for falsely accusing this man!

-KG finally got paroled from his prison sentence with the Minnesota Timberwolves. I didn't think he was ever getting out of there. Going to a Celtics team with Ray Allen and Paul Pierce gives him a pretty good chance of making it to his first NBA finals. I expect to see KG battling against Lebron for the next few years in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

-Daunte Culpepper signed with the Raiders today. I don't understand how the Falcons management looked at Joey Harrington and said, "No, we have no use for a quarterback like Culpepper." I guess I am going to be forced to become a Harrington fan this year. Yay!

-Vince Young got into a fight with a teammate at practice today. To top things off, he through a punch at a guys helmet with his throwing hand. That is Ryan Leaf level of stupidity! Come on Vince, you already know you got the Madden curse working against you! Why push your luck like that???

-Speaking of Madden, NCAA Football 08 for XBox 360 has been out since July 16th. I'm still undefeated. You do the math, haha! Seriously though, it is one of EA Sports' best games of the past few years, hopefully Madden 08 will follow suit in a couple weeks. As always, the only two teams I play with are the Virginia Tech Hokies and the Atlanta Falcons. My XBox Live gamertag is YGZ Motownstomp for anyone interested.

Like This

-MLB Commissioner Bed Selig has announced that he will be in attendance when Barry Bonds breaks Hank Aaron’s all-time home run record in the coming weeks. I think this is a bad decision, since it pretty much cosigns on Bonds’ achievement. Barry Bonds used illegal drugs to help himself hit more home runs. It is really that simple. I just think this whole situation sucks. I remember when I was kid, probably around 7 or 8 when I still cared about Major League Baseball, I used to think of how awesome it was going to be when someone finally broke Hank Aaron’s record. Now that the day is finally upon us, it just seems really watered down due to the whole steroid controversy. Oh well, A-Rod is gonna break Bonds’ record in the next 10 years sometime. I guess I will just have to wait for that.

-Be on the lookout for The Lovely Bones, which is Peter Jackson’s new film. It is a murder-mystery starring Ryan Gosling. If it is anything like the rest of Peter Jackson’s movies then it should be pretty good.

-Mike Jones new album The American Dream just got cancelled by his record label. Damn Mike, what happened? Looks like people are gonna start meaning it when they ask “Who?” after somebody says Mike Jones.

-Do you know what I really love about Entourage? The music on that show is always so fresh. Most of the time, a show will have “In Da Club” by 50 Cent playing in the background and think that is edgy. Last week’s episode had “You Know What It Is” by T.I. and “Stronger” by Kanye West playing in the club that the guys were at. Both of those songs are less that 2 weeks old. I don’t know if anybody else notices that kind of stuff, but I thought it was pretty damn cool.

-One more week and I will be back in the catfish capital of the world, Morgantown, Kentucky. I can’t wait.

-The PS3 had to drop it’s price by $100 this week in order to be able to compete with the Xbox 360. I hate to say it, but the PS3 still has no chance of winning this round of the console wars. Ask anyone who has played 360 and PS3. There is really no comparison. Yeah, the PS3 is a little more powerful, but the 360 has about a thousand cool, creative features that the PS3 really has no answer for. In short, 360 pwns!

-Sidebar. I would never ever under any circumstance, seriously use the word pwn. Honestly, how sad are the people’s lives who really talk like that?

Ridin'

-On Friday, the FBI gave their first detailed report on the dogfighting investigation at a house Michael Vick owns. To make a long story short, there was a dogfighting ring being run from the house. However, Mike Vick's name was not mentioned one time in the report. I think that is a pretty good sign. I absolutely hate the way all these idiot analysts and talking heads decided to convict Vick in the court of public opinion. I just want this whole thing to be over so Mike can go back to doing what he does best, which is being the most exciting player in the league. I am just waiting to kick people off when everyone try's to jump back on Vick's bandwagon once the season starts. Do your thing Mike!

-Apparently, Clay Aiken got into a catfight with a woman on an airplane after one of his concerts, which was no doubt a crunked-out affair! The article didn’t mention if there were any Claymates injured in the melee.

-Lupe Fiasco is working on a new album, titled The Cool. His last album, “Food and Liquor,” was really good. He’s a little bit deeper than most of the rappers out nowadays. If you like Kanye West and Common, then you should definitely give Lupe a shot.

-J.J. Abrams new project looks amazing. It is codenamed “Cloverfield.” You can check out the teaser for it over on Josh’s blog.

-Sorry I haven’t posted in a few days. I have just been swamped with work and schoolwork. I will do better this week . . . maybe.

-This is a video of Harmonix’ new game “Rock Band.” It will be out this fall for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii. It looks amazing. In case you don’t know, Harmonix is the development team that made Guitar Hero 1 and 2. Basically, EA bought the team from Activision. However, Activision still owns the name and trademarks for the Guitar Hero series, and they have hired a brand new team to develop Guitar Hero 3. So if you really think about it, Rock Band is the true sequel to Guitar Hero 2. Guitar Hero 3 is gonna be like one of those movie sequels that doesn’t have any of the original cast in it. I think we all know how Dumb and Dumberer turned out! Anyways, just watch the video. The game looks like a blast. In Rock Band, you can play lead guitar, bass, drums, or even sing the vocals. Check it out:

On The Grind

-Sports Illustrated just did a cool feature where they named the best athlete to ever were each jersey from 00 to 99. Technically, shouldn't MJ have made the list at 23 AND 45, not to mention any other number he may have wore. You can check it out online at:
-Scientist in Germany successfully cross-bred a horse and a zebra. They are calling it a zebrula. No word yet on the liger project. Pictures are at the following link:

You Know What It Is

-Greg Oden has already signed his contract with the Trail Blazers only one week after the NBA draft. This is one of the few areas where I think the NFL could take a lesson from the NBA. In the NBA, all rookie contracts are pre-determined based on draft position. So basically, as soon as a player is drafted he knows how much money he stands to make during the first few years of his career. In the NFL, there is no such system, which is why a rookie first round draft pick is often one of the highest paid players on the team. It also leads to rookies holding out for bigger contracts and missing training camp. It’s not fair to teams to have to pay all that money for an unproven commodity. As we all know, for every Peyton Manning a team might find, there is a Ryan Leaf out there just waiting to ruin an entire franchise!

-Derek Fisher has left the NBA in order to take care of his 11-month old daughter who has cancer. For those who don’t know, Fisher was the point guard for the Lakers when they had their three-peat from 2000 to 2002. He was known for his ability to always make big plays in the clutch. This past season, he helped lead a young Utah Jazz team to the Western Conference Finals. He has always shown tons of class on and off the court and I would just like to wish him and his family the best.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-jazz-fisher&prov=ap&type=lgns

-Researchers at Harvard have developed a new drug that supposedly helps people forget bad memories such as a traumatic event or a past heartache. I wonder if I could get some prescribed to me to help me forget the Atlanta Falcons 2005 and 2006 seasons!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20070703/sc_livescience/newdrugdeletesbadmemories;_ylt=AmxOfDVFhQmw6hzsVn635wbMWM0F
-T.I.’s latest cd dropped today. Even if you don’t go out and buy it, at least do yourself a favor and download the song “Dopeman.” It is one of his best songs ever.

-It looks like License to Wed has gotten pretty much unanimous negative reviews from the critic. It’s a shame, because I am a big John Krasinski fan. He is terrific as Jim on The Office.

-Oh John Stamos, how far has your star fallen? This is bizarre. Watch:

-Check out my girl Sheena’s blog at http://sheenasadler.blogspot.com/ . She has some pretty strong opinions and she doesn’t hesitate to tell it like it is.
-Only 2 more weeks ‘til NCAA Football 08. I can’t wait! I am currently ranked 489 in the world on NCAA 07. You do not want to see me on that game on Xbox Live.

What Goes Around . . .

-It appears that Kobayashi is going to be competing in the July 4th Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest after all. He will be overcoming a painful arthritis condition in his jaw. Kinda reminds me of Game 5 of the 97 NBA Finals when MJ played with the flu and dropped 38. MJ and Kobayashi are cut from the same cloth. No doubt! http://msn.foxsports.com/other/story/6975750

-Go to http://www.youtube.com/ and search "Esmee Denters." She is an amazing singer who is also really good looking. Justin Timberlake just made her the first artist signed to his new record label. Basically, she got her start by using her webcam to post videos of herself singing on YouTube. She built a following, Justin noticed, and now she is signed. Here's a lil' sample:

-Do we really have to wait until January to see new episodes of Lost? This is torture. I'm still thinking the show is gonna turn out to be a big day dream taking place in Vincent the dog's brain.

-Never voluntarily take a class on macroeconomics unless your loved one's lives depend on it or something. I am taking Principles of Macroeconomics right now and it is torture. I mean I am doing good enough grades-wise, but it is just a real struggle. Most of the time my classes are really easy for me.

-All XBox 360 owners should download PacMan Championship Edition from the XBox Live Arcade. It really is the definitive version of PacMan.

-"the definitive version of PacMan?" I just realized how dorky I sounded right there. I really have no life when Sheena isn't here.

Make It Rain

-The NFL Europa got shut down today after 16 seasons. Instead of running an entire league over there, the NFL wants to focus on playing regular season games in Europe and else where around the world. If it wasn't for NFL Europa, Kurt Warner probably never would have made it to the NFL. His spectacular run from 1999-2001 was probably the best three years ever for a QB, and it led to the Rams winning a Super Bowl. Jake Delhomme and Adam Vinatieri are two other notable stars who got their start in Europe. I can't claim to really care that much about NFL Europa, but I am sure that there is a Hamburg Seas Devils fan sitting in a bar somewhere crying right now.

-While we are on the subject, I really think that the whole idea of playing NFL games overseas is pretty dumb. Why can't the NFL just be content to entertain the American fans? I mean they are basically taking away a home game for some unlucky team every year. Not to mention the affects that all that travel has on the players. A mid-season trip to Germany or England could mess with a team for up to two weeks afterwards. As all NFL fans know, two bad weeks can sink your whole season. I hope they drop this experiment after this year.

-Coca Cola has reportedly spent 4.1 billion dollars to purchase Glaceau, the company that makes Vitamin Water. I'm sure some people are like, "What were they thinking?" Trust me, if you have tried Vitamin Water then you know that this was a good pick-up for Coca Cola. Vitamin Water is great. It is much better than Gatorade in my opinion. If you haven't tried it yet, go get a bottle and give it a shot. Power-C and Formula 50 are my two favorite flavors.

-If you watched the BET Awards, then you probably noticed 50 Cent saying, "Vitamin Water, it doesn't matter anymore..." at the end of his performance. He was referring to the above-mentioned sell. 50 was smart enough to buy a 5% stake in the ownership of the company a few years ago, so you know he's going to get a massive amount of cash once this sale goes final. He's alot smarter than people give him credit for. Then again, this is the same guy who instead of using the correct word medley, said that he was performing "a melody of songs" at the 2005 MTV Awards. I guess I'm getting a little carried away with my love for Vitamin Water.

-I think Shia LaBeouf is going to be one of Hollywood's biggest stars over the next 10 years. He is a really good actor. If you ever saw him on the Disney Channel show "Even Stephens" then you know he is pretty damn funny. Also, Disturbia was a great, intense movie. Everybody needs to check it out when it drops on DVD this fall.

-T.I.'s new cd T.I. vs. T.I.P. comes out Tuesday. If you are a hip-hop fan, go pick it up.

-Target is a great store. There is no denying that. However, I feel the need to point out that they have terrible customer service. The other night they practically made me and Sheena jump through flaming hoops and get our congressman on the phone to authorize an exchange of a 55 dollar vaccuum. It was rediculous. Just keep that in mind if you ever need to return/exchange something there.

-It's been 8 months since the Nintendo Wii came out and I have literally seen only 1 on store shelves waiting to be purchased. I cannot believe that this system is still so hard to find. It just goes to show you that's it not always about being the biggest and most powerful product on the shelf. A little bit of good product design and creativity can go a long way towards making a lot of money. Or maybe people just like going to the store and asking someone for a Wii with a straight face. I don't know.

Yep, I'm Back

-The NBA draft is tonight. When I was about 10 or 11 I used to look forward to the NBA draft for months so I could see what player's cards I needed to try to collect for the next season. Nowadays, unless it's the playoffs, I'm pretty indifferent to the NBA. The last time I watched the draft was in 2002 when Yao Ming when number 1 to Houston.

-Greg Oden looks like he is about 55 years old. Everytime I see him I think it's Bill Russell or something. Not to keep piling on Oden, but there is absolutely zero excitement about his game. I think the Sonics are going to be very happy that they had to "settle" for Kevin Durant with the number 2 pick.

-Get this, 13 hours before the cops went to Chris Benoit's house to see what the hell was going on, someone edited his Wikipedia page to say that his wife was already dead. Bizarre. Even crazier, the IP address of the person who edited the page originated from Stamford, CT which is where the WWE headquarters are located. This story gets stranger and stranger by the day. There is a link to the story below.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070628/ap_on_re_us/wrestler_dead;_ylt=AjDegDQLjwZ7q8kgtD0JgNCs0NUE

-Listen to this song right after you finish reading this. The song is Bittersweet by Kanye West and John Mayer. This is what music is supposed to sound like. Why can't everything be this original and creative?
http://allhiphop.com/blogs/multimedia__music/archive/2007/06/11/18137383.aspx

-Wes Anderson has a new movie coming out this winter called "The Darjeeling Limited." I'm sure, like all the rest of his movies, that it will be very funny and very smart.

-If you are a sports fan and have Tivo/DVR then you have no excuse to not be watching Pardon The Interruption everyday. There is no more entertaining and informative show out there for sports news.

-The iPhone is probably the greatest cell phone ever made. But still, it is a cell phone! It is not worth 600 dollars. You can get an XBox 360 and a Nintendo Wii for that kinda money.

-I'm actually starting to get tired of playing Gears of War on Xbox 360. It is just kinda played out I guess. Oh well, I'm not gonna complain. I have been playing that game nonstop since November and I am just now getting bored with it. That's pretty impressive.

Intro

I could probably start this off by saying hi my name is blah blah blah and this is my first blog, but I will just dive right in to what's on my mind.

-First off, I would just like to say that I was inspired to start writing by the highly entertaining blog written by my homeboy Josh. I recommend everybody check it out at http://joshkeown.blogspot.com/. He's pretty funny and he's usually got some good shit to say.

-It sucks that the KG to the Lakers trade has apparently fallen through. Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant could have been a nice look for the next 4 seasons or so. Oh yeah, I'm an unashamed Kobe fan. Fuck the haters, Kobe is the best player in the NBA, period.

-Bon Jovi had the number 1 selling album for this week. My first thought, how the hell does something like this happen? Don't get me wrong. I love "Livin' On A Prayer" as much as the next white guy, but this is 2007. There was seriously nothing better to buy this week than the latest generic pop-rock album by Bon Jovi?

-Chris Benoit, I knew there was a reason why I never liked you. Never.

-I just watched The 40 Year Old Virgin on HD-DVD. No matter how many times I see that movie, I always find something new to laugh about. "She had hands as big as Andre the Giant's, and she had an Adam's apple as big as her balls."

-While we are on the subject, if you have an HDTV then you should really invest in an HD-DVD player. It really makes the movies you watch look and sound perfect.

-I was able to get my hands on an advance copy (translation: bootleg) of T.I.'s new cd, T.I. vs. T.I.P. It is at least as good as his last cd. I will have to give it a few more rounds before deciding if it's his best or not. I have been a big T.I. fan since 2004. I think he is definitely one of the top 3 or 4 rappers out there right now.

-ABC just renewed "According To Jim" for another season. Yesss!!!

-Seriously though, Top Chef is a really good show. It comes on Bravo on Wednesday nights. Trust me, if I like a show like this, then it's a really good show.

-Me and Sheena just moved into our new apartment and it is amazing. It is so nice to have space to put all of your stuff. We had been living in my one-bedroom starter apartment for the past year and by the time we were ready to move it felt like the walls were closing in on us.

-I'm getting married in 24 days. It feels pretty cool to say that. I am really excited about the wedding and all that, I just wish my little brother Tad could be there. He is in Texas getting training for the Navy.

-Speaking of Tad, it's his 20th birthday today. Happy birthday bro. I'm more proud of you than you could ever know. You are really growing up and everybody can see it. Keep your chin up. Everything is gonna get a whole lot better for you real soon.

-I picked up Overlord today for XBox 360. It is a really fun game, and it is well-written. It's not very often that a video game intentionally makes me laugh, but this one does. Anyone with a 360 should download the demo off of XBox Live and give this game a shot.
